The City of Edmonton

The city of Edmonton is the Capital of the  province of Alberta. Listed as Canadsixth-biggest metropolitan region, Edmonton is located in the center of the province inside a fertile farmland area of the prairies region. Edmonton was considered first discovered in 1754 by Anthony Henday, a fur trader with the Hudson’s Bay Company, however, Fort Edmonton was not established officially until 1795 as a major buying and selling post on the North Saskatchewan River.

The title ‘Edmonton’ was suggested by 2 influential Western settlers at the time, following Edmonton, London their birthplace. Because of the fertile farmland and proper placement about the river, Edmonton started to expand quickly in the fur trade and agricultural sectors. Edmonton OilersThe Edmonton Oilers
are a professional ice hockey team situated in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. They’re members of the Northwest Division within the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). Also , they are the northern most team in the NHL.

The Oilers were launched on November 1, 1971, with the team participating in its first season in 1972, among twelve founding franchises of the major professional World Hockey Association (WHA). They were initially said to be 1 of 2 WHA teams in Alberta (the other one being the Calgary Broncos). Nevertheless, when the Broncos folded prior to the WHA’s initial season began, the Oilers were renamed the Alberta Oilers. They returned to using the Edmonton Oilers title for the year after, and have been called that ever since. The Oilers eventually joined the NHL in 1979, among four franchises announced through the NHL merging with the WHA.

After joining the NHL, the Oilers proceeded to win the Stanley Cup on five occasions: 1984, 1985, 1987, 1988 and 1990. Because of their success in the 1980s, the Oilers team of this era has been honored with “dynasty” status by the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Edmonton EskimosThe Edmonton Eskimos are a Canadian football team situated in Edmonton, Alberta. They currently play in the West Division in the Canadian Football League (CFL). The Eskimos are the most successful CFL operation of the modern era (1949-present), after winning the league’s Grey Cup championship on thirteen occasions, which includes an unmatched five consecutive wins between 1978 and 1982, and most recently in 2005. The Eskimos play their home games at Commonwealth Stadium.

The Eskimos have a policy of honouring the members who have best symbolized the team on the field; much like a team retiring a number, the Eskimos keep the number in circulation, however the number is put up on the edge of the concrete separating the upper and lower decks of Commonwealth Stadium.

Edmonton CapitalsThe Edmonton Capitals are a professional baseball team situated in Edmonton, Alberta. Known originally as being the Edmonton Cracker-Cats, they started play within the Northern League in 2005 before switching to the Golden Baseball League in 2008. The team were sold to Daryl Katz in 2009, and after that the team was renamed. The Capitals aren’t affiliated with Mlb. They now participate in in the Western Division of the North American League.

Edmonton rushThe Edmonton Rush is a professional lacrosse team within the National Lacrosse League (NLL) that started playing in the 2006 NLL season.

The NLL announced that Edmonton, Alberta, Canada would receive an NLL franchise on May 5, 2005. They perform their home games at Rexall Place. The Edmonton team is owned by entrepreneur and Calgary resident Bruce Urban, who bought the dormant Ottawa Rebel to begin the Edmonton team. Although early reports advised that they would be playing as the Edmonton Speed, they picked the name Rush on June 9, 2005.
