The heritage blocks improvised their heat
The streets around St. Jean Baptiste hold homes that predate forced air entirely — systems added, extended and adapted across a century of renovations. Ducts routed through former pantries; furnaces succeeding furnaces in basements dug by hand. Harvest is the town’s heaviest season — for furnaces too
Grain country surrounds Morinville on every side, and from August to October the combines keep a fine field dust on the wind. It settles on sills, cars — and into returns and fresh-air intakes, where the furnace inherits it. Homes on the town’s open edges collect the most; by freeze-up, the season is in the system, and it stays until someone takes it out.
The highway builds are tight and busy
The Lakes, Westwinds and South Glens house the Highway 2 commuters in current-code envelopes — sealed tight, HRV-equipped, and carrying their own construction in the lines. Tight homes keep what they’re given, so the build’s drywall dust keeps circulating until its one necessary clean.
