Where You Sit In The Hamlet Sets The Load
Sherwood Park runs seventy-thousand-odd people deep, and a furnace’s working life here depends a great deal on which edge of the hamlet it heats.
The Heartland side breathes different air
The hamlet’s north and east edges sit closest to Alberta’s Industrial Heartland — the refinery and petrochemical corridor that anchors the regional economy. Nothing about that is cause for alarm, and we won’t pretend otherwise to sell a cleaning. But it is physics: ambient particulate runs heavier on that side than the regional average, it settles year-round, and the furnace is the machine that inhales it. Homes toward Lakeland Ridge, Clover Bar Ranch and the northern crescents simply give up more material at cleaning time than the same floorplan on the south side — we see it in the collection bag.
The mature core runs under a canopy
Mills Haven, Glen Allan, Brentwood, Craigavon and Maplegrove are the hamlet’s 1960s and 70s heart, threaded by a share of Strathcona County’s 287 kilometres of paved trail and shaded by trees that have had fifty years to mature. Canopy is lovely and canopy sheds — pollen and seed fluff every spring, leaf debris every fall — and decades-old trunk lines under that canopy hold what the returns pull in. Original-equipment systems here are among the most satisfying furnaces we open anywhere in the region.
The new districts sealed their furnaces in tight
Summerwood, Emerald Hills, Foxboro, Aspen Trails and Salisbury Village are the modern expansion: tight envelopes, HRV-equipped, built fast through construction seasons that left drywall dust and sawdust in the lines. A tight house is efficient, but it recirculates — whatever the ducts carry keeps passing through the furnace. Many of these homes also run an HRV that has never been opened; we clean the HRV for $150 in the same visit, and in this half of the hamlet we recommend it almost by default.
One price across all of it
Wherever you sit, the arithmetic doesn’t move: $345 + GST for a single furnace with every duct run and diffuser connected to it, +$150 per additional furnace, +$60 per zone. Strathcona County addresses don’t pay a travel premium, and the quote you get on the phone is the invoice.
What this means for you
North-and-east-edge homes and never-cleaned originals in the mature core see the biggest change. Tight newer builds benefit most when the HRV is done in the same visit.
