Stony Plain is really two housing markets sitting side by side, and the furnaces in each behave nothing alike. Add the farmland that surrounds all of it, and you get a dust profile you won’t find inside Edmonton.
The housing around Old Town and the original core goes back generations. A lot of those systems predate modern duct design entirely: wide, slow trunk runs, sometimes converted from an older gravity setup, and frequently extended piecemeal as basements were finished and additions went on. New construction is a dust factory — the furnace is typically running through drywall sanding and trim work with only a builder’s filter installed, which is not really a filter. That material goes straight into ductwork that will be in the house for the next thirty years.

This is the local factor most homeowners underestimate. Stony Plain is ringed by working agricultural land.
