The collector is the part everyone looks at. The ducting is the part that quietly fills up — narrowing, slowing, and starving your tools of capture long before anyone notices. We clean the whole system, trunks and drops included.
A dust collection system fails slowly, and it fails from the inside. By the time someone says “the collector isn’t pulling like it used to,’ the problem has usually been building for a year or more in the one place nobody can see.
Dust collection depends on conveying velocity — air moving fast enough through the ducting to keep material airborne all the way to the collector. Get below that threshold and particles drop out and settle on the duct wall.
Settled material narrows the effective diameter of the duct. A narrower duct at the same fan output means lower velocity. Lower velocity means more material settles. That is a self-reinforcing loop, and it runs quietly for months before anyone connects it to the fine layer of dust now appearing around the tools.
What people usually do at that point is check the filters, because filters are visible and easy to blame. Sometimes it is the filters. Often the filters are fine and there is fifteen kilos of packed material sitting in a horizontal run nobody has opened since installation.
Accumulated combustible dust is a recognised fire and explosion hazard in shops and plants — wood, grain, flour, some metals and many plastics all qualify. The mechanism that makes it dangerous is the same one that makes it invisible: material settles inside ducting and on horizontal surfaces where nobody looks, and stays there until something disturbs it.
We are not a safety consultancy and we do not perform dust hazard analyses. What we do is remove accumulated material from the ducting and collector, and tell you plainly what we found in there — including anything that looks like it needs a conversation with someone qualified.
Beyond the safety question, a loaded system is an expensive one. The fan works harder to move less air, which shows up on the power bill. Capture at the tool drops, so more dust lands on the floor, on finished work and in the air your people breathe. And filter media loads faster when the ducting is feeding it a heavier stream, so you buy bags more often than you should.
Where the material actually accumulates. Horizontal runs and long branches are the worst offenders, and they are the sections least likely to have been opened since the system went in.
Cyclones build a packed layer on the cone wall that changes how they separate. Hoppers hold material long past the point anyone assumes they were emptied.
Every direction change is a place velocity drops and material drops with it. Blast gates jam with packed dust and stop sealing, which quietly bleeds suction from every other drop on the run.
The housing and the area around the bags or cartridges. We clean the accumulation — we do not service, replace or specify filter media, and we will say so rather than pretend otherwise.
We are a cleaning company. We do not repair or modify dust collection equipment, redesign ducting, specify filter media, or carry out dust hazard analyses. If we find something in your system that needs an engineer or a safety professional, we will tell you and show you the photos — and then it is your call.
We look at the system before we price it — run length, duct diameter, access, number of drops, the collector type, and what the material actually is. You get a fixed number, not a range that moves on the day.
The system is shut down and locked out before anyone opens anything. We work to your site’s procedures — if you have a permit process, we follow it.
Ducting is accessed at the appropriate points, material is broken loose and drawn out under vacuum rather than pushed further down the line. The collector, cyclone and hopper are cleaned in the same visit.
You get before-and-after photos from inside the ducting and a plain-language note on anything we found — jammed gates, damaged sections, unusual accumulation. No sales pitch attached.
The system has to be down while we are in it. Your shop does not. Most of this work happens evenings and weekends so nothing stops — tell us your window and we will build the quote around it.
